'Being a former student on the BTEC Photography and Digital Imaging course has enabled me to achieve milestones that I thought were impossible and I cannot be more grateful for all of the knowledge and experience the course taught me. I started the course after completing my first year of A Levels when I had realised that I was much more suited to a more creative and hands on approach to learning, this was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made!
Being taught by lecturers with industry experience, access to studio space and equipment to loan all added to my success. From the very beginning I was taught the basics of how to use a DSLR camera, how to use industry standard editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Premier Pro and InDesign, how to use a film camera and even develop imagery in the Darkroom! Working on new creative briefs for each module gives you the creative freedom to explore many different aspects to photography so whether it be fashion, portraiture, location, still life or macro there is definitely a place for you on the course to express yourself whilst learning how to work towards industry style briefs. For me being able to conduct a photoshoot and then create magazines which I had professionally printed was certainly a highlight, along with the creative freedom during my Final Major Project! The fundamental skills, constant support, encouragement, creative freedom and industry standard approach on the course have all been essential factors to my progression into University and working within the industry so for anyone wanting to take a step in a similar direction to me this course is for you!
After completing the course I have gone on to studying BA(Hons) Fashion Image Making and Styling at the University of Salford, where I am due to start my third year. I have also worked freelance with small fashion brands, had the opportunity of an experience day at Missy Empire and worked on live industry set briefs by Revolt London and Magma. Most recently I have shared one of my biggest achievements to date, I had the honour of being an artist contributor in Bodyform's #WombStories advert campaign 2020! Take the initial first step onto the BTEC Photography and Digital Imaging course I promise you will open up doors you thought you could not reach!'
